Cynosure Elite Laser Treatments

Cynosure is the leader in laser treatment technology. The Elite Laser is very efficient at removing hair, pigmented lesions, and spider veins of the face and legs. But it doesn’t stop there—facial rejuvenation (laser facials) can also be performed with the Elite.

About the Treatments

The Cynosure Elite laser is most effective for removing spider veins, dark hair, and dark lesions or sunspots because the laser beam is attracted to the pigment. The darker the pigment, hair, or vascular imperfections, the better the results.

In addition to the pigmented problems of our skin, laser treatments can reduce generalized redness and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face.

In general, most laser correction can require two or more treatments depending on the problems being treated.

With any light based therapy, there are risks such as burning, scarring, hyper-pigmentation, hypo-pigmentation, blistering, and discomfort. It is also important to understand that risks of adverse reactions are severely heightened by sun exposure and photosensitive medicine. Although the risks are low, it is important to convey any pain level above a 7 (on a scale of 0-10) during your treatment.

Types of Treatments

Free yourself from unwanted hair…for good! No one enjoys shaving day after day or the unsightly bumps from razor burn. The Elite Laser has the most effective technology for hair removal, and can treat individuals with all skin colors.

About the Procedure

Most areas of the body require approximately five treatments 6 to 8 weeks apart. The number of treatments required depends on the intensity of color in the hair shaft and the area being treated. Coarse, dark hair will respond much faster to treatments than fine, lighter colored hair. Unfortunately, grey, blond and red colored hair does not respond to laser treatments.

Each laser session treats only the hair shaft that is actively growing at any given time. On average, this makes up about 30% of the hair growth pattern. That is why multiple treatments are necessary.

Recovery and Typical Results

After a treatment, you can expect redness in the treatment area with mild folliculitis. Some people develop hives, in which case an antihistamine is recommended. These symptoms usually resolve within a week. It is advised to stay out of the sun for four weeks before and after the treatment in order to lessen the risk of adverse reactions.

Spider veins, also known as telangiectasia, is a visible network of blue or purple lines found on the face or legs—resembling a spider’s web. While they often appear on the legs and face, spider veins can appear nearly anywhere on the body.

These veins are usually little more than a cosmetic concern, however, they can impact a person’s quality of life due to embarrassment over one’s appearance. The good news is there are non-invasive, effective ways to eliminate unsightly spider veins permanently with laser therapy.

About the Procedure

Laser treatments for spider veins use concentrated pulses of laser energy to damage affected veins, causing them to seal shut and eventually fade from view. The laser targets the blood in the veins, leaving surrounding tissue and skin undamaged.

The treatment is performed at Owsley Plastic Surgery as an outpatient procedure. Most patients experience minimal discomfort during treatment, which some describe as similar to a pin prick. Topical anesthetic may be used for patients concerned about their comfort level during the procedure. However a cold blast of air is continually applied during laser treatments.

Different wavelengths of laser light may be used during the procedure, depending on the size and depth of the spider veins to be treated. The entire procedure may take less than 30 minutes to complete and patients may return to regular activities immediately following treatment.

Recovery and Typical Results

Some patients experience redness and bruising after treatment, which subsides within a few days. Results of laser therapy usually take between 2 to 6 weeks to fully appear. Because the treated veins are damaged and eventually eliminated, the procedure is considered a permanent treatment for spider veins. Some patients may need multiple sessions of laser therapy to achieve desired results.

Pigmentation describes the color of the skin, which is determined by the amount of melanin in the body. When excessive melanin is produced, the result can be skin darkening, which is also known as hyperpigmentation.

Hyperpigmentation can involve a very small area of skin, such as age spots or sun freckles. It can also refer to larger areas of darkening, such as the skin patches of hyperpigmentation known as melasma.

About the Procedure

The Cynosure Elite laser is effective for treating hyperpigmentation and pigmented lesions below the skin’s surface, since concentrated laser energy can penetrate the surface of the skin without damaging surrounding skin and tissue. Most pigmented lesions can be removed with 1 or 2 treatments. Laser treatments are performed in the office and may take less than an hour to complete with no downtime afterward.

Recovery and Typical Results

Redness is likely and mild blistering is possible. The pigmented area will darken then become crusty and will flake off. Do not pick at or peel the area, as it can lead to scarring. The treatment area will usually complete a sloughing process within 2 weeks. The use of sunscreen is advised after any laser treatments. Results from these treatments can be seen right away, and continue to improve as cell renewal occurs.

Laser skin rejuvenation is an innovative procedure that uses concentrated pulses of laser light to stimulate collagen production and cell renewal in the skin. These treatments can also target specific skin concerns, including hyperpigmentation, signs of aging, acne and rosacea.

Recovery and Typical Results

The type and duration of results achieved depend on the specific facial rejuvenation treatment used. In some cases, results will be seen right away, while other treatments allow results to appear over a period of days. Length of results will also vary, with some treatments requiring touch-up sessions within a few months to maintain positive results.
